Mark and Bryan met while working side by side in a San Francisco cabinet shop. They found a complimentary set of skills as well as a shared interest in craft and excellence. In 1996, hungry and anxious to start their own business (they knew they could do it better) they aggressively pursued and won their first bid; $80K of cabinets for a Russian Hill home remodel.

For the first three years of Detail A, Bryan and Mark did everything; bidding, building, (sanding even!), delivering, installing, doing the accounting, repairing shop machinery, etc. Since then the business has grown to 15 employees. The original 2500 sf shop has expanded to 8000 square feet with state-of-the-art machinery and cutting edge technology.

Mark Brown has always known he was destined to work in the trades (the same as his two brothers). Starting with three hours per day of cabinet-making class in high school he has spent the past twenty years as a craftsman. His experience includes general carpentry, finish carpentry, stair-smithing, woodworking and cabinet-making.

Mark now brings that depth of experience to Detail A's project management, estimating and public relations.

Bryan Collison spent his formative years playing with Legos, building skateboard ramps, attending high school shop classes, and working construction jobs during his summers.

After a couple of years committed to rock climbing (climbing without a ladder on roofing jobs wasn't enough) he returned to the life of the craftsman working for a commercial cabinet shop. It was there he developed his real love of woodworking. He spent many hours after work making furniture for himself, family and friends. Bryan eventually found himself working for a premiere shop building custom client furniture.

Bryan's wealth of hands-on experience and expert skills runs Detail A's design, fabrication, engineering and project management.
